Lulu are offering the chance to purchase Rays of the Sun [paperback] with 15% off with coupon code FALLREAD305

About Rays of the Sun

Ngak’chang Rinpoche’s teachings were simple, direct, and experiential. The four evening talks contained here deal with the themes studied by everyone exploring Buddhism in depth: the four noble truths, eightfold path, causality, compassion and refuge. This material is discussed in creative contemporary English, and presented from a perspective informed by Dzogchen.

Review

This is a work which belongs on the shelf of anyone interested in understanding the basic fundamental ideas which make the foundation of Buddhist thought and practice.

How to be Good in Bed
(behaving well in your dreams matters too)
Dream Yoga workshop
with Métsal Wangmo

The practice of dream yoga is of falling asleep with awareness. We spend a third of our lives asleep so being able to devote that period of time to practice is crucial for anyone whose available waking life  is limited by work and family circumstances. Dream Yoga practise can also free us from conceptual limitations of time and space and allow us to penetrate the illusory nature of what we take to be concrete reality.

Aro Ling opens today in Bristol

Aro Ling Buddhist Centre for the Arts and Meditation

opens today, 21st May in Bristol.

It is a Buddhist bookshop and meditation equipment supplier, at 127 Gloucester Road, Bristol City Centre. It is also much more than simply a shop. Aro Ling is a creative space, where you will find local artists’ works on display. It is a stimulating space, home to the Chhi’mèd Rig’dzin Research Library, containing a host of titles on Buddhist teachings, and Asian culture, for casual perusal or serious study by practitioners and scholars. It is a healing space, in which Aro Elemental Balancing and Aro Bodywork are practiced, along with other complementary therapies in our therapy room. It is a space to explore – to develop an understanding of oneself through meditationmartial arts, and dance – by spending time practicing in our shrine room. Above all, it is a welcoming space, where you can sit and read, chat with our staff or with passing friends and acquaintances – about meditation, the arts, or whatever enters your mind.

There will be regular weekly drop in classes and regular activities and events, see the calender for details.

The first teaching event will be this evening and will be a talk on

Reality as Art
with Ngak'chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen at 7.30pm.
see here for details.

Aro Books worldwide : Quotations, Reviews, Discussions

There area now pages on the Aro Books worldwide Facebook discussion board where you can post Quotations, Reviews, Discussions, Links and other information about Spacious Passion, the teachings on Tobacco, Moving Being and Rays of the Sun.

Feel free to post reviews. They can be quite succinct

"For me, even more remarkable is the introduction and commentary by Khandro Déchen, in which she discusses the theory that is realised as practice. The language is crisp and clear and direct; I find it accessable but also subtle, so that every time I read it, something I'd not realised before, or understood becomes apparent or tugs invitingly at me." - Kira O'Reilly reviewing Moving Being

It is not possible to taste the fruits of Buddhist practice without fully engaging with its radical horticulture. Fruit will not grow if the seed of view is not sown, watered, and fed by the energy of practice.

The Heart of the Sun & Moon - Romance as Spiritual Practice - Berlin, Germany

The Heart of the Sun & Moon
Romance as Spiritual Practice
Weekend Course June 4 - June 6
Lama Shardröl Du-Nyam Wangmo
Aro gTér Lineage of the Nyingma School
Ngakma Shardröl is an ordained Lama and disciple of the Dzogchen Lamas Ngak’chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen, who are the lineage-holders of the Aro gTér. She has worked with her teachers as the editor of their books (Wearing the Body of Visions, Spectrum of Ecstasy, and Roaring Silence) and at their request she has taught in the US, UK and Europe since 1996. Ngakma Shardröl, a native New Yorker, is known for her clarity and humor and her down-to-earth accessible style.
The Heart oft the Sun & Moon
In Sutra, romantic relationships are viewed as a distraction from practice, but the Vajrayana teachings of the Khandro-Pawo Nyida Mélong Gyud present a unique perspective on romantic relationship as spiritual practice. This puts to rest the commonly-held view that celibacy is spiritually superior to a natural life.

Unfortunately, romantic couples often constrain and condition each other, missing the tremendous potential their relationship holds for liberation. The profound teachings of the Nyida Mélong show how the openness and kindness of falling in love expresses the human side of the two wings of Buddhist practice: wisdom and compassion; emptiness and form.

The teachings of the Nyida Mélong show us the possibility of making our entire life experience into practice. We can learn how to stay in love forever. To experience the nondual passion of vajra romance is to enter the heart of the sun and moon.

Spacious Passion - Hardback Edition

Ngakma Nor'dzin's book Spacious Passion is now available in hardback from Aro books worldwide

A Buddhist book exploring the sutric teaching of ‘The Four Thoughts that turn the Mind to Practice’ as vividly relevant to our everyday lives: the extraordinarily precious opportunity to live as an honourable human being; the experience of impermanence that pervades our existence as an opportunity to awaken; the emotional and psychological patterning which dominates our lives (karma); and the seemingly endless cycle of dissatisfaction in which we imprison ourselves. Each chapter ends with a series of questions and answers which are both pragmatic and inspirational. Ngakma Nor'dzin has been a practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism for more than twenty years.

We are giving away one copy of the hardback edition of Spacious Passion.  If you would like a copy please write

Natural State

The natural elements are our meditation.’
30th April - 2nd May 2010
a weekend residential retreat with
Ngak'chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen

Within the setting of the Herefordshire countryside, Aro Lineage holders Ngak'chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen will teach a series of Dzogchen practices which function through the everyday experience of one’s daily life.  Despite their simplicity such practices engender a profound shift of perspective; a radical and direct intimacy is revealed as a natural opportunity for anyone wishing to step fully into the vibrancy of the senses and the sense-fields.

The weekend will include teachings on the Moving Elements, the psycho-physical exercises of sKumNyé, Rhythm Breathing, Sky Gazing and A-tri exercises.

Poulstone Court, Kings Capel, Herefordshire, UK, HR1 4UA

The Lama is neither safe nor tame, but s/he is committed to the student’s realisation and to the path of Kindness. The student is neither safe nor unsafe with the Lama. The student is ‘safe’ in that the Lama—well certainly with regard to ourselves—will never harm them or be unkind to them, but ‘unsafe’ in that their neuroses will be challenged continually.

You have to address your own level of fear, and that is called compassion – simply being with ‘what is there’. Accepting the whole texture of what you feel without having to act out, or lash out in some primitive bid for self-preservation. We have to trust the texture of what is happening and relax with the ‘rip-tides’ of what we feel. If there’s some space, then that becomes possible. It’s a ride though … but if we reject ‘the ride’ … we get ridden … and the spurs bite deep!

'Rays of the Sun' by Ngakpa Chögyam

'Rays of the Sun' brings together three booklets that were very popular in the 1980s and an article that appeared in Caduceus magazine.  The chapters cover the topics of the four noble truths, eightfold path, karma, kindness and refuge.  "The four evening talks contained here deal with the themes studied by everyone exploring Buddhism in depth: the four noble truths, eightfold path, causality, compassion and refuge. This material is discussed in creative contemporary English, and presented from a perspective informed by Dzogchen."
